Volkswagen is to make an electric version of its upcoming Up! city car, and it is most likely to be based on the more family-friendly, five-door Space Up! mini-MPV.
The Up! EV is due for debut in 2010.
In the meantime, Volkswagen is to fit stop-start technology in the next-generation Golf (a more sophisticated system than that of the Golf Eco of the 1990s), and hybrid versions of the Golf, Jetta and Toaureg are also on the way. The new Golf Mk6 will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show this autumn.
