Practical, versatile, good-looking interior, thoughtful detailing, comfortable, reliable
Gutless engines, stodgy CVT auto, prone to body roll, feeling dated now, undistinguished exterior styling
Practical and attractive, but not really offering anything unique. Secondhand, not the cheapest option in the class, but one of the most reliable.

Inspired by the success of Renault's Scenic - basically a taller, more practical Megane, using the same underpinnings and engines - Nissan created the Almera Tino in a similar, very easy fashion; unsurprisingly, it's taller, more practical and mechanically all-but identical to the Almera...
All pretty unremarkable then - but unlike some rivals, Nissan put plenty of thought into its concept, interviewing mums, dads, even children, to see what they wanted most from a 'compact MPV'. This means that the Tino is ultra-practical, yet refreshingly free of the gimmicks and never-to-be-touched superfluous gizmos so common now.
Replaced in spring 2006 by Nissan's all-new Note - another exceedingly practical family car, which although smaller overall, offers more interior space - the Almera Tino is now looking, and feeling, rather dated, but at the right price, it's still a good purchase for no-nonsense family transport.
