Hyundai i20
Hyundai is to show two eco-friendly concepts at the Paris Motor Show.
The i20 i-blue is a low-emissions version of Hyundai's upcoming new supermini. It features Hyundai's new 1.4-litre diesel engine (90bhp and 162lb-ft of torque), and returns 68mpg; carbon dioxide emissions are just 99g/km.
It'll come with a six-speed manual gearbox, and modifications including extra under-body covers to improve aerodynamics, ride lowered by 15mm, low-friction engine oil and low rolling-resistance tyres.
The mainstream i20, also to be launched in Paris, has a roomier interior and longer wheelbase than the Getz, and has been developed and designed in Europe. It'll go on sale early next year.
Hyundai is working on a number of hybrids, and the Santa Fe hybrid concept combines the 2.4-litre petrol engine with a 30kW electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. This makes for an overall fuel consumption figure of 44mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 148g/km.
Hyundai will also display its Genesis saloon and coupe concept, and the iX55 SUV, the European-market version of the Veracruz already on sale in the USA. This large seven-seater, an old-school body-on-frame off-roader, will not be offered in the UK, however.
