Ferrari has revealed its replacement for the 360 Modena, the F430. It's an aluminium-constructed, mid-engined two-seater, with a compact, 90-degree V8 engine, though with some 483bhp, it's significantly more powerful than the 394bhp 360 Modena, as Ferrari tries to keep pace with the car's nearest rival, Lamborghini's 493bhp Gallardo.

| View from the sky: As with the 360 Modena, the engine is on show in all its beauty. It should stay reasonably clean, too, as the engine bay's underside is enclosed. What you can't see is the clever 'e-diff', which consists of two twin-plate clutches under electro-hydraulic control the same hydraulic pressure which is used for the F1-shift, when fitted. The diff can alter its torque transmission from nothing to 1844lb ft in just 60 milliseconds. This diff is the main reason why the F430 is three seconds a lap quicker than the 360 around Fiorano. |
