| A few of Jay's cars |

Cars and stars have gone hand in hand ever since the motor and movie industries grew up at the same time. "Clark Gable used to drag race. James Dean did too, sadly," says Leno as we cut through the sun and smog of an L.A. lunchtime.
The Duesenberg is the sort of car that any pre-war movie star like Gable would have swanned around in. Even wearing a denim shirt and baggy jeans, Leno too looks right at home in the monstrous icon of inter-war American motoring.
The dashboard is a masterpiece of art deco design. The speedo rotates like the drum on a set of old fashioned bathroom scales. There is even an altimeter - in the late 20's everyone wanted an aeroplane.

"These were the fastest American cars until the '50s. This is not one of the old cars where you are constantly waving to the cars behind and shouting 'please go around me. Sorry. SORRY.' In this you can sit at eighty all day long," explains Leno as we pull onto the 5 freeway into Hollywood.
