100 Greatest Cars

Jay Kay
"I've had a few Ferraris," declares Jamiroquai front man Jay Kay. Which is a bit like Marilyn Monroe saying she had a few admirers. The truth is that he has four to his name at the moment, including his latest toy, an Enzo. Jay has also had an F40 and F50 - little more than F1 cars made road legal.

"But the Enzo is the best car I have ever driven. It is like driving a slot car. It is so different from the F40. It is not so spartan and it's easier to drive. The F40 could really catch you out. What's more, this is the car of the moment."

Owning an Enzo is like having Michelangelo pop round and decorate your house, which is just what attracted rock's automotive authority to his most extravagant purchase yet. "I love the fact that my music allows me to have all these fantastic cars. I couldn't choose between music and cars, but I am happiest in my cars," he tells me as we natter at Goodwood, a place where he feels right at home.

Cars are one of the true consistencies in Jay's life, a life which began by losing his twin brother at birth, growing up a gypsy on tour with his singer mother Karen, becoming a teenage criminal in west London and finally breaking out of the underground Acid Jazz scene to hit superstardom a decade ago.
