Real-life gaming machine
A viable business case?
Nissan has come up with what seems a pretty apt name for this radical, lightweight two-seat, motorcycle-inspired concept that will show at January's Detroit motor show - Urge.

The Urge is a small, minimalist, aluminium-based sports car exercise put together to test the waters below the 350Z. Designed by Nissan Design America, based out of La Jolla, California, Urge takes to the show stand in Detroit officially as a design exercise "to test reaction."

But if feedback is good, as it's expected to be, Nissan may well decide to go with it, although any production version will certainly not look exactly like this, will be largely aimed at a US audience and could still be several years away. Target price in the US is $20,000 (or £11,400 in today's money). Interested? Thought so.

Nissan Urge
Officially just a 'design exercise' for Detroit
As Nissan's answer, of sorts, to the Lotus 340R, the Urge is an uncompromising pure sports concept that melds performance with technology and is aimed at today's young, console-wielding videogame generation. With few creature comforts, it's designed to offer the raw, open-air feel of a motorcycle.

Nissan, however, is not the only Japanese maker checking out this sub-$20K sports car market in the US. At Detroit, Mazda will also be showing the Kabura, a tiny, funky MX-5-based coupe that reputedly mixes RX-8 and DB9 cues and looks sensational.
