Sylvia Earle: America’s female ‘aquanaut’

She was one of America’s first women ‘aquanauts’, setting a deep sea diving record in 1979. At 82, Sylvia Earle remains a passionate deep ocean explorer and campaigner for the seas. She says she still dives at least once a month otherwise she gets “dry rot.” She has just given the Natural History Museum Annual Lecture, where she warned of the imminent threat to the oceans which sustain all life on Earth.
