Boris Johnson defends chief aide Dominic Cummings over claims he broke lockdown

Despite driving to his parents home in Durham, a journey which even some Conservative MPs say was in breach of the lockdown rules, Dominic Cummings has tonight been backed to the hilt by Boris Johnson.

He acted ‘responsibly, legally and with integrity’. That was the prime minister’s verdict after face to face discussions with his chief aide today.

Despite driving to his parents home in Durham, a journey which even some Conservative MPs say was in breach of the lockdown rules, Dominic Cummings has tonight been backed to the hilt by Boris Johnson.

But some of Boris Johnson’s own supporters are furious, saying they and their constituents are following the rules to the letter, while those in power appear to be taking a different approach.
