Why are women far more likely to be affected by ACL injuries than men?

It’s a knee injury which can put an athlete out of action for up to a year – including dozens of elite players who’ve been forced to miss out on the Women’s World Cup.

In fact women are far more likely to be affected by ligament injuries than men, but experts still don’t understand why.

It’s led to renewed calls for more research – to find out what could help to reduce the risk.
