UN agrees major treaty to protect Earth’s oceans

It’s been described as the “learning journey of a lifetime”, as nations finally agreed an historic deal to protect the world’s ocean, after years of talks.

Delegates at the United Nations in New York rose for a standing ovation as the treaty was signed – designed to safeguard 30 percent of oceans and surrounding land by the year 2030.
