Thousands evacuated as Australia wildfires spread

Thousands of people are on the move in one of the biggest evacuations in Australia’s history – residents in the path of raging wildfires ordered to leave now, before weather conditions get sharply worse.

Hundreds of people who were trapped on a beach at Mallacoota by the advancing flames have been rescued by the Australian Navy.

At least 19 people have already died in the fires and over 1,400 homes have been destroyed.
