Sussex plans to restore kelp forests to fight climate change

It’s brown, smelly and elusive and it plays a key role in the fight against climate change. Giant seaweed – known as kelp – used to flourish off the Sussex coast, providing a vital habitat for marine life and helping to remove carbon dioxide from the air.

Most of it’s been wiped out by years of pollution, trawling and dredging – but now there are hopes of a revival.
