Sunak becomes first British Asian prime minister, as Diwali celebrations held across UK

Big celebrations will be taking place across the UK for the Hindu festival of Diwali – an auspicious moment, perhaps for the first Hindu, and the first British Asian to take over Britain’s top political job.

The news made the front pages in newspapers in India, where Narendra Modi sent his “warmest congratulations”.

So are British Indians treating Mr Sunak’s success as another cause for celebration?
