Parties launch election campaigns across the UK

Day one of the general election campaign and Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer have hit the ground running – taking their pitch to voters around the country.

The prime minister, who’s just arrived in the Scottish Highlands – started his day in Derbyshire, where he told people to put their trust in him, and the return of economic stability.

The Labour leader was in Kent – declaring it was time to “end the chaos.”
