Hopes of new talks to restore Northern Ireland executive stall

Yesterday the politicians of Northern Ireland sat side by side at the funeral of murdered journalist Lyra McKee, facing an impassioned demand from the pulpit to get back to working together.

Last night hope was kindled that it might even happen. But today, as our Chief Correspondent Alex Thomson reports from Belfast, hopes of new talks to restore the Northern Ireland Executive have gone. It’s back, not to business, but blame, as usual.
