Hearing told police ‘failed in duty of care’ to man who died

A police disciplinary hearing has heard how three officers failed in their duty of care to a man who lay dying in the caged rear of a police van. Adrian Macdonald’s last words were “I can’t breathe”, but an expert’s evidence said it took nine minutes before police attempted to resuscitate him. The officers all deny the charges. It’s the latest case this week to highlight concerns over deaths in police custody.
