Could north-east England be next in line for toughest Covid restrictions?

It’s not just local authorities in Greater Manchester concerned they might be about to move into the most severe of England’s three lockdown tiers.

In the north east of England, residents in all 12 local authorities woke up to life under Tier 2 restrictions, but case rates in Newcastle are not far behind where they are in Tier 3 Liverpool.
