Coronavirus lockdown leaves millions of Indian workers unemployed

When India was plunged into a strict lockdown – it left the country’s internal migrant workers stranded, many hundreds of miles from home.

Tens of millions of people who worked as casual labourers in India’s major cities are suddenly unemployed with some taking to the roads for the impossibly long walk home, while others crowded inside shelters or slums, relying on charity food parcels to survive.
