Concerns over privacy and data protection in NHS app trial on Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has found itself on the cutting edge of technology – as islanders began downloading the new NHS track and trace app which ministers say is a vital tool to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The idea is that if someone has symptoms, the app can alert everyone with whom they had contact – so they can isolate and get tested too.

But there have been issues raised about privacy and data protection.
