Allegra Stratton resigns as PM orders inquiry into Downing Street lockdown ‘party’

A couple of hours before the prime minister’s announcement, Allegra Stratton emerged tearfully from her London home, saying she was resigning  her government job  and offering her “profound apologies” for appearing to make light of Covid rules.

But some opposition MPs say the prime minister should take responsibility himself, while Labour accused him of “taking the public for fools”.
