Driver ‘deliberately’ injures policewoman in central Paris

A motorist deliberately drove at and injured a policewoman outside French President Francois Hollande’s residence in Paris on Wednesday night, French media report.

France is on high alert after the gun attacks in the capital last week, though Wednesday’s incident is currently thought to be unconnected to the terrorist attacks in which 17 people died.

French media report said then car had been driving the wrong way along a one-way road, and had deliberately driven at a policewoman.

The officer was said to have been thrown onto the bonnet of the car, but only sustained a slight injury to her wrist.

Four people were said to be in the car, and two have been arrested. Two other people in the car are reported to have fled the scene, and police are now pursuing them.
