Numerous events sold out after Olympic ballot

“We are thrilled with the response right across the board, in all sports and all sessions. Certain events have seen massive demand – for example the Opening Ceremony, which is more than 10 times oversubscribed, so there will understandably be disappointment and we will find a way to go back to those people with other tickets.”

Once the tickets are allocated LOCOG will “de-duplicate” tickets that are over subscribed and customers who have missed out will be given further opportunities to apply again in further ballots in June and July.

Lord Coe explained that the multiple applications showed how many families are looking to attend: “What is most encouraging is that the majority of applications are for multiple tickets and for several sports, which shows that friends and family are planning to go to the Games together.”

Disappointment ahead for some fans

Track Cycling, Great Britain’s most successful event in Beijing 2008, was one of the first to completely sell out along with another medal favourite, Equestianism. More surprising however was the popularity of Rhythmic Gymnastics, and the outdoors events of Triathlon and Modern Pentathlon, all some of the first events that will definitely have a full house in 2012.
