Man arrested following house fire deaths

A man has been arrested on the suspicion of murdering of three members of the same family in a house fire in south Wales.

A man from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to a fire at an address in Tillslan, Coed Eva, Cwmbran in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the blaze at 3:30am today and, whilst tackling the flames, discovered three bodies. Gwent Police has identified the three bodies as 46-year-old Kim Buckley, daughter, 17-year-old Kayleigh Buckley and grand daughter, six-month-old Kimberley Buckley.

Around 30 firefighters from five stations attended the scene. They are currently shoring up the property for crime scene investigators.

Chief Inspector Steve Corcoran of Gwent Police said: “This is a tragic incident that involved three generations of the same family and our condolences are with the family of the victims.

“We would ask, on their behalf, for them to be left alone to grieve at this time. Our family liaison officers are supporting them at this dreadful time.

“This has affected the wider community, they were well known within the community and their loss will be keenly felt and they will be missed. We are grateful for the co-operation of the community at this awful time. We are working with partners to ensure that all those affected will be given support.”

A spokesman for Gwent Police confirmed that a 27-year-old male had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“The people confirmed deceased inside the address were two adults and one infant,” the spokesman said. “Fire service and Gwent Police forensic investigations will begin this morning and officers will also be conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area.”
