Lincoln, the Steven Spielberg film about the eponymous US president, leads Bafta 2013 pack with 10 nominations.

Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis, leads the BAFTA nominations

The film, which stars Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field, has been nominated for best film, leading actor and leading actress amongst its ten nominations.

Literary adaptations have also done well, with Ang Lee's Life of Pi and Tom Hooper's Les Miserables picking up nine nominations. Both films are nominated in the best film category.

Ben Affleck's film on the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, Argo, also makes a strong showing in the major awards - and is nominated for best film, director, adapted screenplay and lead actor.

Also on the best film list is Zero Dark Thirty, about the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The five-strong BAFTA list contains just one British-made film, Les Miserables.

Les Miserables also features on the outstanding British film shortlist, alongisde Anna Karenina, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Seven Psychopaths and the latest in the James Bond series Skyfall.
