Voters could be required to show ID at polling stations by 2023

When voters go to the polls in elections in a few weeks time, they’ll be asked to select mayors, councillors and assembly members.

But, they won’t be asked to show their ID. Something the government hopes to change by 2023 with an Elections bill.

Critics say it’s a solution in search of a problem – with convictions for voter fraud vanishingly rare.
