US virus cases surge as global infections pass 10 million

The world has passed a grim milestone. More than 10 million people across the globe have tested positive for Covid-19.

The latest figures suggest that nearly half a million people have died from the virus worldwide.

The United States has seen a quarter of the world’s infections and, with cases in many areas continuing to rise, some states are reimposing restrictions.
