They were lured to the UK from Poland with the promise of a better life. What awaited them was anything but. Rat-infested, unheated housing, long hours of drudgery with a wage of as little as 50 pence a day. Today, the gang behind what police have described as the largest-ever UK modern slavery ring were jailed. They had trafficked hundreds of vulnerable people to Britain, enriching themselves in the process.
