Ukraine: First time since April, Russia strikes capital Kyiv

Ukraine says its forces are “strongly resisting” Russian occupiers in Severodonetsk and have prevented them seizing control of the city – but other parts of Ukraine have come under attack, including the capital Kyiv which was hit by rocket fire for the first time since April.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin threatened to strike at targets “not yet hit” if the west sent long range missiles to bolster Ukraine’s defence.
