UK needs booster vaccine push to slow Omicron wave, say scientists

A large wave of Omicron infections could be on its way early in the new year with the spread of the new variant estimated to be doubling every 2.4 days in England.

Scientists say it’s still difficult to predict whether this will mean more people suffer severe symptoms and have to be hospitalised, but have also warned that further, tougher restrictions could be needed.

They’re certain, though, that more people getting vaccine booster jabs will help to contain this latest mutation of the virus.
