UK heatwave: London Fire Brigade in busiest day since WW2

The country is counting the cost of yesterday’s record-breaking high temperatures.

Dozens of homes were destroyed and major incidents were declared in South Yorkshire, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.

One of the worst-affected places was the village of Wennington, east London, where about 100 firefighters tackled a fire that ripped through people’s homes and upturned their lives.
