UK greenlights US strikes on Iran from its bases amid market turmoil

The government announced this evening that the US could continue using UK bases for “defensive operations” to strike at sites which Iran is using to attack shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s effective closure of the Strait has already sent the markets tumbling and pushed the cost of UK government borrowing to its highest level since the global financial crisis.
