Fishermen protest the response to unexplained deaths of crabs and lobsters on North East coast

North of England Correspondent

Fishermen from across the North East and North Yorkshire have taken to the seas to protest over the unexplained deaths of thousands of crabs and lobsters which they say are “decimating” their industry.

Government scientists claim naturally occurring algae is responsible, but the fishermen say that recent dredging along the Tees Estuary has played a part.

They warn if nothing is done there won’t be a future for the fishing industry in the area.
