Teachers have been told to keep parents informed if their child wants to change their gender identity in school, as part of the long-awaited draft guidance for England’s schools to support those described as ‘gender questioning children’.
There’s already been criticism from both sides of the debate. The former prime minister Liz Truss says it’s too woolly and the law should be changed instead. Trans campaigners say the guidance will leave those already vulnerable feeling more isolated.
