Thousands of Scots pupils left disappointed after exam grades lowered

They had their exams cancelled for the first time in history by the pandemic – but as Scottish pupils got their results today, there was disappointment for thousands who didn’t get the grades they’d been expecting.

Results were based on teachers’ predictions, combined with a moderation process by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. But there are concerns that instead of ensuring fairness – it’s ended up penalising students from less affluent areas.
