Thousands march through London in Kill The Bill demonstration

The pandemic has proved no deterrent to demonstrators taking to streets across Europe in traditional May Day rallies.

Police and protesters clashed in Paris and Istanbul – and thousands marched through the centre of Madrid.

Here in the UK, the new Policing Bill prompted demonstrations in several cities.

The legislation would give officers greater powers to crack down on protests that are too noisy or cause serious annoyance.
