The Darien Gap is a treacherous stretch of jungle connecting South and Central America through which migrants must pass on their journey north towards the US border.

After our Latin America Correspondent Guillermo Galdos and camera operator Rodrigo Galdos accompanied one group on a gruelling six-day trip – seeing first-hand how sickness, injuries and roving armed gangs threatened the lives of those risking it – we travel to where many of those who pass through the Darien Gap end up – the town of Matamoros, on the Mexico-US border, where a new life in America is tantalisingly close.
