Tesco facing largest ever UK equal pay claim

Social Affairs Editor and Presenter

It’s the biggest ever equal pay claim against private companies, and it’s gaining ground all the time. Twenty thousand supermarket workers – mainly women – who work on the shopfloors of Asda and Sainsbury’s, were today joined by workers from Tesco, all arguing that they are being under-paid and under-valued compared to male colleagues working in the warehouses.

This case could have massive implications for the entire retail sector, potentially costing the big supermarkets billions of pounds.
