Should museums and galleries accept fossil fuel sponsorships?

The British Museum has just announced a £50m ten-year deal with the oil-giant BP to help fund a major redevelopment. It’s been criticised by climate activists and campaign groups, who want museums and galleries to limit where they raise money.

The decision was made in November and was preceded by the resignation of the deputy chairwoman, the broadcaster Murial Gray, for what the museum says was personal reasons. So should major institutions take this kind of sponsorship?

We put that question to Lord Ed Vaizey, the former Culture Minister.
