Shielding officially ends in England and Wales

Shielding for nearly 4 million people in England and Wales officially ended today.

Many of them have been confined to home for the last year because they are clinically vulnerable.

The lifting of restrictions follows the fall in Covid cases and hospital admissions, but they are still advised to social distance, work from home and avoid crowds.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to lift their restrictions later this month.

Jane Dodge has been back to see three people in Nottingham who have been shielding for the last year.
