Record high in top grade A-level results

There’s something to celebrate for students whose education has been disrupted for another year by the pandemic – a record number of A and A* grades in A-levels in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

This year’s grades were calculated by teacher assessment after exams were cancelled again, as the watchdog said students had been treated fairly.

But the gap between outcomes at private and state schools has widened.
