Plan for UK supermarkets basic food price cap

The Government is discussing voluntary plans to encourage supermarkets to cap the price of basic foods to help with the cost of living crisis – with food price rises soaring to their second highest rate for 45 years.

The Government said tonight any scheme would be at retailers discretion. But supermarkets say it wouldn’t make any difference, with margins already kept very slim.
