Pakistan elections: Khan and Sharif both declare victory as army calls for unity

“Elections are not a zero-sum competition of winning and losing” – so says the Head of Pakistan’s Army after an election where TWO former Prime Ministers have claimed victory.

Independent candidates linked to the jailed former PM Imran Khan won the most seats. But Nawaz Sharif says HIS party is the largest and he wants others to join him in a coalition government.

The Army said parties need to show “maturity and unity” after an election process condemned by a host of western governments.
