Numbers crossing Channel to UK in small boats tripled in 2021

New figures show that more than 28,300 people made the perilous Channel crossing from France to England last year – triple that of the year before.

There was also a substantial rise in the number of people trying to get into the European Union – up 60% on the previous year to over 180,000.

Although two years of Covid have had an impact and the rising numbers mean world leaders are faced with some tough decisions in 2022.
