Home Affairs Correspondent

The number of troops deployed in Wales to help the ambulance service is to be more than doubled, amid fears about the impact Omicron cases could have on staffing of essential services.

The chief executive of the Welsh ambulance service has told Channel 4 News that Covid could push absence levels to 20% next month.

Wales, like Scotland and Northern Ireland, has already announced tougher Covid restrictions for the post-Christmas period.
