North Shropshire by-election: Boris Johnson accepts ‘personal responsibility’ for huge defeat

The pressure is mounting on Boris Johnson as senior Tories questioned his leadership after the party’s shock defeat in the North Shropshire by-election.

Liberal Democrat Helen Morgan romped home in what has been a rock solid Conservative seat for almost two centuries.

She said voters had shown that for Mr Johnson “the party is over”.
