‘No magic money tree’ for more councils says Starmer

The Conservatives stole two Labour policies to fund tax cuts in their budget. And now Labour has kicked off its local election campaign with some rather familiar-sounding promises.

Sir Keir Starmer says he will make good on Boris Johnson’s levelling up pledge, and help communities “take back control” from Westminster – giving more power to regional mayors.

Meanwhile, his deputy, Angela Rayner, found herself fending off more questions about her tax affairs.
