Niger: How the climate crisis is fuelling war

Drought, floods, net zero – all of these are dominating the agenda in Glasgow. But one burning issue that’s receiving less attention at COP26 is how climate change is already fuelling conflict.

One of the worst areas affected is the Sahel,  a swathe of arid land crossing northern Africa, where temperatures are rising by 1.5% more than the global average.

Conflict over diminishing resources is driving jihadi violence sweeping Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

We have been  to Ouallam, in Niger, where thousands of people have been displaced.
