Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe: Husband on hunger strike vows to continue until it is unsafe

The husband of Nazanin Zagahari-Ratcliffe says his family is “stuck in the same status quo” following what he described as a “depressing” meeting with British government officials.

Richard Ratcliffe’s comments came as the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani also held talks at the foreign office in London.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian dual national, has been in custody in Iran since 2016 after being accused of plotting to overthrow the government.

According to her family, she was told by Iranian authorities that she was being detained because of the UK’s failure to pay an outstanding £400 million debt to Iran.

Mr Ratcliffe is now on day 19 of a hunger strike to highlight his wife’s plight.

He says he’ll continue until his protest is deemed medically unsafe.

Filmmaker Darius Bazargan has been with him, and his wider family, on the protest that they hope will shame the government into action.
