MPs say single-parent families and disabled people being pushed into poverty

MPs have warned that an “unacceptably bleak” picture is emerging of the impact benefit cuts are having on the most vulnerable people in the country, with single-parent families and disabled people hit the hardest.

A report by the Work and Pensions Committee says that the government’s reforms to the welfare system are pushing more people into poverty.

We spoke to some of those impacted, including Susan Donnelly, whose story is among those featured in journalist Frances Ryan’s book Crippled: Austerity and the Demonisation of Disabled People.
